At approximately 12:30 am on Thursday 6 October 2011, medical sources at a Khan Younis hospital announced the death of Alaa Mohammed Mahmoud Abu Madi, 26, due to injuries sustained from an Israeli attack seven years earlier.
According to the information available to Al Mezan, at approximately 11:45 pm on Tuesday 13 May 2003, Mr.
Abu Madi sustained critical injuries after a bomb dropped by an Israeli aircraft struck only meters away from a gathering of people near the Abdel Rahman mosque, in the middle of Khan Younis.
As a result, 16 civilians were injured, among them Mr.
Abu Madi, who sustained shrapnel wounds throughout his body.
Due to his critical health situation, Mr.
Abu Madi was transferred to a hospital abroad to receive treatment, where he underwent one surgery to remove part of his trachea and additional head surgery.
He continued to receive treatment and visit doctors periodically as he suffered from seizures and shortness of breath.
On Thursday 6 October 2011, Mr.
Abu Madi suffered an acute seizure leading to his death.
Doctors informed the family that his death was due to the injuries he sustained in 2003.
