AOHR Condemns Israeli War Crimes in Gaza and Asserts the Necessity to Provide Protection for Civilians

10 April 2011

10 April 2011     The Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) have followed with grave concern the crimes committed by Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) in the Gaza Strip.
As a result of these crimes, about 20 persons were killed and dozens of persons were injured, most of them were civilians, including children.
The failure of the international community to condemn these terrible crimes committed by IOF, which were alleged to have taken place in response to Palestinian rockets, has further exacerbated the concerns of the AOHR.
Attacks were carried out by the IOF against various civilian areas as well as against resistance fighters, amidst international silence.
The AOHR views the series of attacks as crimes, as they were carried out in compliance with the Israeli policy of systematic aggressive armed attacks that disregard international law.
The IOF attempted to politically and legally influence the effectiveness of the UN Fact-Finding Mission Report by exploiting the unfair essay that had been written by the head of the Mission’s chair, more than a year and a half after finishing his role.
These crimes cannot be viewed separately from the new atmosphere in the region brought about by the recent Arab revolutions, as the IOF attempts to exploit current Arab states engagement with internal developments.
The AOHR calls on the international community to uphold its responsibility in implementing the Fourth Geneva Convention and to provide the due protection for civilians who live under occupation.
