Al Mezan Delivers a Specialized Training Course for Pharmacists on 'Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law'

On Wednesday 24 February 2010, Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights, working jointly with  the Palestinian Pharmacists Associations, convened a specialized training course on 'Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (IHL)'.
       Al Mezan’s director, Mr.
Issam Younis; the head of the Palestinian Pharmacists Association Dr.
Mahmoud Al Wali; and Mrs.
Shirin Shobaki, the Coordinator of the Training and Mass Communication Unit at Al Mezan opened the course at Al Mezan's office in Gaza City.
They welcomed the 23 pharmacists.
     Mr.
Younis talked about the importance of human rights which the government should uphold including, the right to food and housing.
Mr.
Younis  thanked the Palestinian Pharmacists Association for its first cooperation with Al Mezan.
  For its side, Dr.
Mahmoud Al Wali said this is the first training  course targeting the Pharmacists Al Wali asserted on the importance of attending the course, thanked Al Mezan for its cooperation and hoped this cooperation would continue in the future.
      Mrs.
Shirin Skobaki emphasized on the importance of this specialized training course and presented the purpose and curriculum of the course.
The course aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of the participants in human rights and international humanitarian law.
  The course consists of 18 hours to be delivered over three days.
The course  introduces participants to: the historical and legal framework of IHL and international human rights law (IHRL); the content of IHL and IHRL; the international Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights; national and international protection mechanisms; monitoring and documentation mechanisms; the right to health and protecting the medical personnel under the IHL.
