At approximately 4:45 am on Saturday, 12 August 2023, the Israeli navy opened fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of Beit Lahiya, in North Gaza District, and arrested two fishers, one of them is a child.

According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, the Israeli navy opened fire and surrounded a fishing boat located two nautical miles off the coast of Beit Lahiya, owned by the fisherman Sharif Mohammed al-Sultan, 50, and was carrying two fishermen: Ornas Sharif al-Sultan, 27, and Mohammed Rafi al-Sultan, 14 — both residents of Beit Lahiya. As a result of the shooting, the two fishermen were injured by rubber bullets: Ornas in his right leg and Mohammed in his left leg, and they were arbitrarily arrested, and their boat was confiscated by the Israeli authorities.

At around 12:30 p.m. on the same day, both fishermen were released via Erez Crossing.
