11 August 2018
Short Link:
At 6pm on Saturday, 11 August 2018, Israeli naval forces opened fire at Palestinians joining the naval march called for by the National Committee of the Great March of Return and held in protest of Israel’s blockade over the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian protesters sailed on a boat off the coast of Al Waha area in west Beit Lahia city; one of them, 22-year old Ziad Hilles, was lightly injured by shrapnel of Israeli live fire. Al Mezan’s documentation shows that about 40 Palestinians were aboard when the boat started sailing at 4pm on the same day towards occupied territorial waters. Israeli naval forces then intercepted the boat and opened fire at the protesters. Protesters on other boats had to withdraw back to Gaza seaport in fear for their lives.
