At 9:30am on Saturday, 19 May 2018, doctors at Al Shifa Hospital reported the death of Mohammed Elian, 18-year old resident of Nusairat refugee camp in the Middle Area district. Elian died of wounds he sustained in the head when shot with live fire by Israeli forces while he was joining the Great Return March demonstrations in east Burij refugee camp in the Middle Area on 14 May 2018. He was first rushed to Shuhada Al-Aqsa Hospital and then referred to Al Shifa Hospital, where he was reported dead on 19 May 2018.
