On Monday 21 May 2018, Israeli forces located on Erez crossing detained Bilal Al-Astal, 28-year old resident of Khan Younis, as he arrived to his interview with Israeli intelligence to follow up on his request for permission to cross through Israel to Jordan for medical treatment of fistula. In the evening of the same day, the Palestinian civil liaison office, which submitted Bilal’s request, informed his family of his detention. Bilal had been interviewed by Israeli intelligence in Erez before for the same purpose.
