On Sunday, 8 April 2018, Israeli forces located on the eastern borders near Malaka area east of Al Zaitoun neighborhood eastern Gaza opened fire and launched tear-gas canisters at tens of protesters who gathered near the separation borders to demand their right of return to their homes from which they were expelled in 1948 and 1967. Six Palestinians, including a child, were injured—two of them by live fire and four by tear gas. Medical sources at Al Shifa hospital described the injuries as moderate and light. Israeli shooting continued until the evening.
