At approximately 7:15 am on Wednesday, 20 July 2016, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) opened sporadic fire at the agricultural fields adjacent the borders east of Deir Al Balah. As a result, farmer Awni Hassan Sulaiman Abu Ghraba, 38, sustained a bullet wound at his left thigh while he was in his field, about 700 meters far from the separation fence, southwest the landfill, east of Deir Al Balah. In his affidavit to Al Mezan, Abu Ghraba stated that he was irrigating harvests (tomatoes and zucchini) in his field with his nephew, Hassan Sami Abu Ghraba, 24,who was helping him. Suddenly, they heard the sound of shooting coming from the Israeli observation tower which is located east of his field near the separation fence. He felt that there was something in his left thigh and he saw blood coming out from his leg. After that, his nephew carried him by a motorcycle to Al Aqsa Hospital to receive treatment. Doctors removed the bullet and described his injury as moderate.
It’s worth to mention that Abu Ghraba is responsible of a family that contains of six members.
