Al Mezan Center for Human Rights (Al Mezan) concluded a training course on women’s rights and International Humanitarian Law, on 18 May 2016, for 22 human rights activists working in monitoring and documentation of violations against women. The course was held at Al Mezan’s Jabalia office in North Gaza.
Hussein Hammad, Director of Al Mezan’s Jablia Office, thanked the participants for their commitment and participation, and hoped that the participants will gains practical skills, which they would later disseminate among their peers.
In conclusion, individual and collective assessments were carried out. Afterwards, Hussein Hammad accompanied by Al Mezan’s lawyers, Alaa Elskafi and Nuha Abu Zarifa, handed out certificates of participation.
The course consisted of 15 training hours delivered over six sessions, and discussed the following topics: Introduction to International Human Rights Law, the Convention on Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), introduction to International Humanitarian Law, the protections of women and children in armed conflicts, and monitoring and documentation mechanisms of human rights violations.
This training is part of Al Mezan’s core program which aims at promoting human rights, and building the capacities of the youth in monitoring and reporting human rights violations.
