At approximately 1:00 AM on Tuesday, 12 April 2016, Israeli occupation forces (IOF) arrested the coach of the Palestinian Karate team, Hassan Barawi Hassan Al Ra’i, 37, resident of Al Sabra neighborhood, south of Gaza City, while traveling via Erez Crossing. On 5 April 2016, Al Ra’i had traveled via Erez crossing to the UAE along with two administrators and six players to participate in Karate World Championship for Persons with Disabilities. On their way back to Gaza, on 11 April 2016, the IOF detained the team until the next day and then arrested Al Ra’i and released the others.
