In a new incursion in the town of Beit Hanun, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) destroyed two homes with explosives and arrested 16 people.
They also demolished 7 homes in the town of Rafah.
At approximately 2 a.
Wednesday 30 October 2002 (IOF) broke into four homes east of Beit Hanun, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
Israeli special forces took part in the operation, supported by tanks and helicopters.
Soldiers searched each home while detaining the residents inside one room.
The four homes are owned by Zakaria al-Kafarneh, Ibrahim Ahmad Zwidi, Mahir Ismail al-Basiuni and Muhammad Udwan.
Sixteen of the residents were arrested.
Two of the homes were destroyed with explosives before the army left the area two hours after the start of the incursion.
The destroyed homes belonged to Mahir Ismail al-Basiuni and Ibrahim Ahmad Zwidi.
On Tuesday 29 October 2002, about fifty Israeli tanks and two bulldozers entered the Brazil area in the town of Rafah and bulldozed seven homes.
The homes were owned by Intisar Mustafa Arafat, Jabir Abdul Jabber al-Qutati, Usama Abdul Latif ash-Shaf’I, Khalil Musa as-Satari, Akram Ibrahim al-Ajiz, Muhammad Ibrahim al-Ajiz, and Sami Jamal al-Ajiz.
Two other homes were partially destroyed in the same incursion.
The IOF started bulldozing the area alongside the Egyptian border in Rafah on 16 October 2002 on the pretext of preparing ground so a wall could be built for security reasons.
Since that day, tens of tanks have been stationed at the Salah ad-Din Gate area adjacent to the Brazil area and have repeatedly fired on residential property.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights is gravely concerned by Israel’s continued aggression against Palestinian civilians.
The Center is particularly alarmed by crimes being perpetrated by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip, where daily they deliberately kill and arrest civilians and destroy their homes and property.
Al Mezan calls upon the international community to intervene immediately and put an end to these crimes.
The Center also demands that the international community provide effective protection for Palestinian civilians in the OPTs.
