Israeli Occupying Forces (IOF) attacked several areas throughout Gaza Strip, killed a three-year-old child and injured eight, including a woman and her two children.
According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, at approximately 3:30 pm on Tuesday, 24 December 2013, IOF fired three artillery shells at the Abu Sbeikha family houses, which are located in the eastern parts of Al Maghazi refugee camp.
The two houses are approximately 700 meters away from the fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel.
Two missiles hit the house of Ahmed Salim Abu Sbeikha, 34, who lives on the first floor, with his brother Bahaa’ living on the ground floor.
As a result, Hala Ahmed Abu Sbeikha, 3, was killed while she was playing near her house.
Buthaina Talal Abu Sbeikha, 28, and her two children, Belal and Mohammed, 4 and 6 respectively, were injured.
Medical sources at Al Aqsa Hospital described the injury of Buthaina as moderate.
The third missile fell on the adjacent house belonging to Salman Abu Sbeikha, 70.
As a result the house was destroyed.
At approximately 4:15 pm on the same day, IOF opened fire at a group of young Palestinian men who were west of As-Saiyafa area in Beit Lahiya.
IOF announced the killing of a Palestinian man who was trying to sneak across the borders.
The IOFallowedanambulancefrom the Palestinian Red Crescent Society to enter the area, aftercoordinationbetween the International Committeeof theRed Crossand theIsraeli side.
The paramedic found a dead body of a giant sea turtle.
The turtle left the sea and moved to the east towards the fence when the IOF killed it.
At approximately 4:30 pm on the same day, the IOF opened fire at a group of young Palestinian men west of As-Saiyafa area.
As a result, Ali Basher Rehan, 12, sustained a bullet wound in the left leg.
Medical sources described his injury as moderate.
Between 3:15 pm and 4:30 pm on the same day, Israeli helicopters attacked several areas including Beit Lahiya, west of Deir Al Balah, Khan Younis, and Rafah.
The IOF also fired several missiles east of Al Sheja’iya and Az-Zaitoun neighborhoods in Gaza City.
People in those neighborhoods suffered trauma as a result of the attacks.
The Al Mezan Center for Human Rights strongly condemns the Israeli attacks against Palestinian residential houses and the killing of a child and the injury of a mother and her two sons.
Al Mezan warns of Israeli violations escalating into a wide-scale operation on the Gaza Strip.
Al Mezan calls on the international community, particularly the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention, to promptly intervene to oblige Israel to uphold its legal obligations under international law.
