On Thursday 17 May 2012, the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights opened an educational workshop titled “Juvenile Justice under National Law and International Conventions,” held at the National Center for Rural Development in Khan Younis district.
About 32 university students participated in the workshop.
This workshop constitutes one component of the “Enhancing Legal Aid for Victims of Human Rights Violations in the Gaza Strip” project, implemented by Al Mezan with support from the United Nations Development Program - Program of Assistance to the Palestinian People (UNDP/PAPP, Rule of Law Program).
Layal Qdeeh, a project lawyer, opened the workshop by welcoming the participants, and then gave a brief description of Al Mezan’s work and its activities aiming to promote human rights culture.
The participants were introduced to various topics related to juvenile justice, the situation of children in conflict with the law, and their protection under national and international laws.
  Mrs.
Qdeeh presented the participants with real stories to familiarize them with the situation of Palestinian children in conflict with the law.
At the end of the workshop, the manager of the Center thanked Al Mezan for its efforts to foster a culture of human rights in Gaza.
The workshop is part of a wider campaign by Al Mezan to advance principles of child protection through development of the juvenile justice sector.
