Al Mezan Concludes Training Course Entitled “Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law: Basic Concepts”

On Thursday, 8 December 2011, the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, in cooperation with the Fajer Students’ Association, concluded a training course entitled “Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law [IHL]: Basic Concepts,” held at Al Mezan’s office in Gaza City.
  About 27 new university graduates participated in the course.
Mrs.
Shirin Ash-Shobaki, coordinator of the training and mass communication unit at Al Mezan, concluded the course by thanking the participants for their commitment.
 She added that she hoped the course had achieved its aim of increasing people’s awareness of human rights and IHL, as being familiar with the culture of human rights is very important for all social sectors.
The course provided 18 hours’ training over a period of three days, introducing participants to the historical and legal framework of international human rights law and international humanitarian law; the content of IHL’s basic principles; the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights; the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women; and the right to education.
These courses are part of Al Mezan’s annual program aimed at distributing and promoting a human right culture and knowledge of IHL.
At the end of the course, Mrs.
Ash-Shobaki distributed certificates of completion to the participants.
