On Thursday 20 October 2011, the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights concluded a training workshop for women titled “Women and Children in Human Rights” in the Az-Zaitoun neighborhood of Gaza City.
Mrs.
Shirin Ash-Shobaki, coordinator of the training and mass communication unit at Al Mezan, concluded the workshop at the meeting hall of the East Gaza Association.
Mrs.
Ash-Shobaki thanked the 30 participants for their contributions and interaction with the trainers.
She stressed the importance of participants making good use of the workshop’s contents to improve their daily lives by eliminating violence against them and their children, especially in marginalized areas in Gaza.
In the course of the workshop, which lasted for three days, the participants heard an introduction on human rights and were presented with information on women and children’s rights, humanitarian law, violence against children and its behavioral effects, violence against women, and the special protection mechanisms of the United Nations.
This workshop is part of Al Mezan’s activities in the field aimed at raising awareness of human rights and building a human rights culture, which is a starting point for the protection and promotion of respect for human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory.
Becoming aware of rights constitutes the first step towards defending them.
