Yesterday evening, 27/7/2001, a quarrel took place between “Abu Hasanein” and “Juruf” families in Khan Younis located in Gaza Strip.
Nine citizens were killed and more than 20 were injured as a result to the incident.
The incident broke out in Bani Suhaila in Khan-Younis governorate where some armed members of Abu Hasanein family shot dead Anwar Juruf due to a family feud.
Anwar Juruf was arrested by the Israeli forces for killing a member of Abu Hasanein family during the first Intifada, and was released 18 months ago.
The incident reached a highly dangerous stage when citizens form different families were killed.
Al- Mezan Center condemns and considers the incident that have taken place in the Gaza Strip, to be highly dangerous.
It calls upon all parties, especially the two families, to demonstrate self-control in order to protect the lives of their families.
Self- control and solidarity among the Palestinian people are extremely necessary during this time in which the Palestinian people are suffering from the impact of continued Israeli aggression.
Al- Mezan Center requests the members of the two families to abstain from taking the initiative to bypass the law.
In addition, it calls for the following:
Reinforcement of the rule of law.
Securing civilian courts their full authority in order to ensure that justice prevails.
