Six Airstrikes on Gaza, Al Mezan Condemns IOF Escalation; Calls for International Protection of Civilians in Gaza

21-12-2010 00:00

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) escalated the aggression on the Gaza Strip.
IOF launched new attacks on various targets in Gaza and continued its siege on it.
This escalation also comes under increasing targeting of Palestinian civilians collecting scrap and rubble near the border with Israel.
On Tuesday 21 December 2010, Israeli warplanes launched six airstrikes at different locations in the Gaza Strip.
According to the documentation of Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights, at approximately 7:20am on Tuesday 21 December 2010, the IOF opened fire at Palestinian civilians who were collecting scrap and rubble from the destroyed structures near the border fence between Gaza and Israel.
They were about 400 meters from the border fence near the evacuated settlement Eli Sinai, northwest of Beit Lahyia town in the North Gaza district.
As a result, Rami Hassan Ibrahim As-Sous, 17, was injured in the left leg.
Medical sources at Kamal Odwan Hospital described his injury as moderate.
Al Mezan also monitored six Israeli airstrikes on Gaza as follows: -          At approximately 12:15am on Tuesday 21 December 2010, Israeli aircraft fired a missile at an agricultural area northwest of Fad'uos neighborhood, north of Beit Lahyia town in North Gaza district.
As a result, a livestock farm owned by Salah Ad-Din Abdel Hadi Taha was completely destroyed and 2,000 chickens were killed.
No causalities or injuries were reported.
-          In a separate attack, at approximately 12:20am on Tuesday 21 December 2010, Israeli aircraft fired a missile at the house of Mrs.
Samar Rezeq Mahmoud Abu M'ammar.
The house is located near the Ar-Rayan mosque southwest of Sofa crossing in the Al Shoka village, east of Rafah.
The house is about 1.
5 kilometers from the border fence.
It is built on an area of 130 square meters, roofed with asbestos, and has three bedrooms.
As a result, the house was completely destroyed.
No casualties or injuries were reported as the house was empty when it was attacked.
Two adjacent houses were severely damaged in the attack.
These houses are owned by Hatem Marzouq Abu M'ammar and Tawfeeq Marzouq Abu M'ammar.
The two houses host 21 persons including 16 children.
-          At approximately 12:25am on Tuesday 21 December 2010, Israeli aircrafts fired a missile at a yoghurt factory that is located at the Asdaa' media production village, west of Khan Younis.
As a result, the factory was completely destroyed.
The factory is one of the projects that had been established in the village, which was built on an evacuated settlement after the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005.
-          At approximately 12:30am on 21 December 2010, Israeli aircrafts fired a missile at an agricultural area that is located in the Abu Safiya area east of Jabalia, in North Gaza district.
The missile fell on an open area and no casualties or injuries were reported.
  -          At approximately 12:45am on 21 December 2010, Israeli aircrafts fired a missile at the Al Sh’outh neighborhood near the Gaza-Egypt border, south of Rafah town.
No causalities or injuries were reported.
-          At approximately 11:20pm on Monday 20 December 2010, Israeli aircraft attacked a training site for the Ezadin Al Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas Movement, which is located west of Khan Younis.
As a result, one person was moderately injured and the training site was damaged.
Al Mezan Centre reiterates its condemnation of the continuous IOF attacks on Gaza.
The IOF escalation comes as the siege of the Gaza Strip continues to harm civilians and their human rights in many ways.
It also comes as Israel escalates the threats to launch larger-scale attacks on the Gaza Strip.
Al Mezan warns about such threats and calls on the international community to intervene to ensure effective protection for civilians in Gaza.
Previous IOF operations in Gaza caused severe damage to civilians and the civilian infrastructure.
They must not be allowed to happen again; especially under the absence of accountability for violations of international law, which has only encouraged more violations of human rights to continue.
