The Palestinian Liaison Office (LO), which is located in the Ministry of Civil Affairs’ office at the Erez crossing in the north of the Gaza Strip, was broken into and items were stolen from it.
In his affidavit to Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, the director of the LO said that at approximately 6am on Sunday 24 October 2010 he went to the office to find the door of an adjacent store was broken.
He added that during the past months, the LO was subject to a series of attacks and that this was the eighth such attack.
The continuous attacks against the LO hinder the work of the office, which cares for facilitating the movement of Palestinian patients, businessmen, merchants, and other travelers through Erez crossing, but also international journalists, humanitarian workers and diplomats.
The perpetrators and reasons behind this attack have remained unknown.
The director of the LO informed the police of the attack.
The police had initiated investigations into previous attacks; however, the results of these investigations were not revealed.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights condemns the continuous attacks against the LO.
It calls on the Gaza Government to provide the due protection to the office which serves Palestinians, particularly patients who seek medical treatment outside the Gaza Strip.
