Israeli Forces Open Fire at an Activity in Solidarity with Palestinian Hunger Strikers East Gaza City, 7 People Injured

At approximately 9:00 am on Friday, 19 May 2017, Israeli occupation forces (IOF) opened live ammunition and rubber coated steel bullets and launched tear gas canisters  at a popular activity that was organized in solidarity with Palestinian detainees held in Israeli prisons.  Tens of young men and children participated in the activity. As a result, seven people were injured including a child. Two of the injured sustained live bullet wounds and  two others sustained rubber coated steel bullets injuries. Three people including a child were injured due to inhalation of tear gaz.

Al Mezan identified the names of the injured as follows:

  • Bilal Jabra Zaki Al Shawa,32;
  • Mohammed Iyad Ali Al Hasani, 21;
  • Mohammed Ali Baker Abdel ‘Al, 19;
  • Ibrahim Mohammed Abu Taha, 35;
  • Alaa Rashad Al Wadeia, 27;
  • Saji Rafeq Wahdan, 25; and
  • Ramzi Tareq Melhem, 14.


According to Al Mezan’s field investigations, the activity was organized by Palestinian factions in different places eastern and northern separation fence and it took place at the same time. the activity continued until 8:00 pm on the same day.
