At approximately 9:40 pm Sunday 19 September 2004, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) assassinated Khalid Abu Silmyeh in Gaza City.
Al Mezan Center's fieldworkers reported that an Israeli plane fired a missile on a car in Khalil Al Wazeer Street in Gaza City, destroying it and killing its driver.
Six passers-by were also injured.
In the early morning hours today, IOF closed the beach road, south to Gaza City after bulldozers dug holes in the road and blocked it with dirt, preventing movement between Gaza and middle-Gaza area.
IOF opened fire at people who tried to walk at the beach to reach Gaza City.
21-year-old Ala' An Namla, a university student, was injured as he was trying to reach his university in Gaza.
The closure of this road denies access for thousands of people who visit Gaza City for education and business.
Moreover, at approximately 9:45 am today, IOF opened fire at the Sukaina Girls Secondary School, which is located about 700 meters east to Kfar Darun Settlement near the town of Dier Al Balah.
A 16-year-old student, Asmaa Nabil Salim Al Masri was injured from a live bullet in the neck inside her classroom.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights condemns the escalation of the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian civilians and their property in the occupied Palestinian territories (OPT).
The Center also emphasizes that the systematic policy of assassination of Palestinians, the continued imposition of tight sieges in the Gaza Strip, the willful destruction of property, and the killing of Palestinian civilians constitute war crimes according to International Humanitarian Law.
Al Mezan Center calls upon the international community, particularly the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Times of War, to fulfill the legal and moral obligations under the Convention towards Palestinian civilians in the OPT.
The state of silence towards Israel's violations only encouraged it to perpetrate more crimes.
