On Wednesday 29 February 2012, Gaza’s High Court of Cassation rejected an appeal submitted by Mohammed Jameel ‘Abdeen, 20, and upheld the sentence of death by hanging issued by the Khan Younis Court of First Instance on 24 November 2010.
‘Abdeen was sentenced for the kidnapping and murder of Abdullah Mohammed Mu’ammar, 20, under the provisions of Penal Law No.
74 of 1936.
On 2 November 2011, the Appeals Court of Gaza had likewise upheld the sentence.
A press release issued by Judge Abdel Ra’ouf Al Halabi, the chairman of the High Court, stated that the sentence is final and not subject to appeal.
